Kuyt Fears Injury Big This Time

Dirk Kuyt is hoping for good
news from doctors amid fears
that he will miss the rest of 2010
with suspected torn ankle
ligaments suffered while playing
for Holland on Tuesday night.
The Liverpool striker is waiting
for the results of hospital tests
after leaving the Amsterdam
Arena in an ambulance during
his country ’s 4-1 win against
Sweden.
He looks set to at least miss the
crucial Merseyside derby on
Sunday, along with defender
Daniel Agger, who lasted only 39
minutes of Denmark ’s game
against Cyprus.

Early indications suggest Agger
will be sidelined for a week with
hopes that it won ’t be longer.
But there is some relief for
beleaguered Anfield boss Roy
Hodgson, with striker Fernando
Torres set to see off an adductor
strain in time for the match at
Everton.

Kuyt was substituted after 29
minutes on Tuesday night when
he landed awkwardly after
leaping for a header.
Boss Bert van Marwijk didn’t
have an immediate diagnosis
after the match, but admitted: ‘It
doesn’t look good.’
Unconfirmed reports in Holland
suggest ankle ligaments could
have been torn rather than
strained, putting Kuyt out for the
rest of the year, but the results of
hospital tests are not yet known.
