John Owens is delighted to see Joe Cole now at Liverpool.
Reds Academy manager John Owens was the England Schoolboys coach when the former West Ham and Chelsea star was making his first imprint on the game back in 1996.
"I'm really pleased with the signing," Owens told LFC TV.
"In August 1996 he came down (to the England set-up) with 100 or so other players and immediately stood out.
"He was a very talented boy. His skill made him shine. We are always careful because you often see boys with skill that don't really show it when it comes to an actual game - but when he started, Joe did show that.
"He was and still is a maverick. He's an unpredictable player with fantastic skills and vision. He's a real crowd pleaser."
