Kuyt Defends Torres After Another Drab Performance
Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has defended the form of his strike partner Fernando Torres following his side's 0-0 draw with FC Utrecht in the second round of Europa League fixtures. Kuyt looked to offer some support to his recently misfiring team-mate who had another off- night and the Dutchman reminded fans of the two assists that the Spaniard provided in the 2-2 draw with Sunderland last weekend. "Tonight we created a good chance together," he told the club's official website. "Against Sunderland and West Brom it [the partnership] worked well, so I think we can play well together but tonight wasn't the best game for us or the team. "It's just a matter of time for Fernando [to score]. I said that after the Sunderland game when people were talking about him not scoring, but he still provided two assists." The Dutch front-man also dismissed the chance that Torres missed to put his side 1-0 up against Utrecht on Thursday night. "Tonight he missed a chance, but he is human and can miss chances like everyone else. I'm sure his goals will come." "We created some good chances but so did they, so I think we have to be happy with a 0-0," Kuyt added. Despite a relatively disappointing result the former PSV Eindhoven forward remained upbeat regarding his side's Europa League prospects and called for a win in their next meague match at home to Blackpool. "We can take confidence from this and we will keep fighting. I think the good thing from tonight is that we got a clean sheet. An away draw in Europe isn't too bad and we have four points from two games, so we just have to keep going and win on Sunday," the striker concluded.
