Carragher Signs Two-Year Contract
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has penned a new two-year contract extension at Anfield. The news of the veteran stopper 's new deal – which is set to keep him at the club until June of 2013 – comes on the day when the Reds' future is likely to finally be decided in court. It is some welcome good news for the club 's fans, all of who have been sweating as owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have continually obstructed the efforts of Boston Red Sox top man John W. Henry 's Liverpool takeover. The Liverpool website read of Carragher: "Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce that Jamie Carragher has signed a two year contract extension that will keep him at Anfield until June 2013. " The Reds vice-captain has been a key fixture in the side since making his debut back in January 1997 and currently ranks sixth in the club's all-time list of appearances having donned the famous shirt on no fewer than 641 occasions. " The No. 23 enjoyed a testimonial against Everton earlier this year and is now in the midst of his 15th season with the club. " He has won no fewer than ten major honours with the Reds, including two FA Cups, two League Cups, a UEFA Cup and the Champions League. " Liverpool face Everton at Goodison Park in a huge Merseyside derby on Sunday.
