Paul Konchesky has revealed
his delight at reuniting with Roy
Hodgson - and backed the boss
as the right man to spearhead
Liverpool's quest for silverware.
The full-back completed a
deadline day switch from Fulham
to the Reds last month, following
in the footsteps of Hodgson in
swapping Craven Cottage for
Merseyside over the summer.
Konchesky cites the 62-year-old
as a major influence on helping
his game evolve sufficiently
enough over the past couple of
years to secure a transfer to
Liverpool.
And having working under
Hodgson's stewardship for more
than two seasons at Fulham, he
is in no doubt the manager has
all the necessary credentials to
navigate Liverpool to success.
Konchesky told LFC Weekly: "I
would say he is a calm character.
I think that as long as you try and
do what he asks you to do then
he's more than happy.
"My game has certainly
developed under him in the last
couple of years. He's brought me
a long way. I've matured and
grown up and he's been a big
part of that.
"It was hard when he first came
to Fulham because we were right
near the bottom but for the two
full seasons he was there the
whole team improved and
everyone knew what he wanted.
"I think he's got a bit of
everything. He works really hard,
especially on the training field. He
gets his teams really well
prepared and everyone knows
what they're doing.
"I think you could see in the two
and a bit years he was at Fulham
that the club really went places.
"I'm sure he will get the team
here organised and really
working for each other and
hopefully he will bring back the
old times to Liverpool and the
team can win silverware again."
Konchesky's switch to Liverpool
is the first time the 29-year-old
has moved to a club outside of
London.
However, he insists the
opportunity to join the Reds was
one he simply could not pass up -
and he is confident his
teammates can help him adjust
quickly to life at Anfield.
"Everyone knows the
background and history of
Liverpool Football Club," he said.
"You don't get the chance to
come to a massive club like this
too often so once I knew
Liverpool wanted me, there was
no looking back.
"I had great times at Fulham and
maybe I wouldn't have left for
anyone else but I don't think you
can say no to a club like
Liverpool.
"I'm sure the other players will
help me settle in quickly. I have
always been in London before
and this is a different culture for
me but I'm looking forward to it.
"There are quite a few
Londoners up here now with
Joey, Johnno and Jonjo. They're
all London boys so I'm sure I'll
get to know them and all the lads
a lot better."
