The sight of Fernando Torres pulling up with an apparent groin injury in the closing moments of the FIFA World Cup final would normally have been calamitous for the Merseyside club in different circumstances.
However, with rumours gathering pace of a potential £50m+ transfer to Chelsea, the injury to Torres might just stall that momentum.
While the Spaniard’s talent is not in doubt – World Cup performances notwithstanding – it would be a very bold club that shattered the British transfer record for a player that has been plagued by injuries for the past 12 months and who would enter a new club without any pre-season training due to his recuperation.
