Disasterous Debut For Brad Jones

The Liverpool debut of
goalkeeper Brad Jones has
ended in disaster with a Carling
Cup exit at the hands of League
Two side Northampton Town.
The Australian gloveman was
making his first start for the Reds
after crossing from
Middlesbrough in the European
summer but it will be a match
he ’d rather forget as the
Merseyside club were
unceremoniously dumped from
the competition following a
penalty shootout.
Liverpool took the lead through
new striker Milan Jovanovic in
the 9th minute before
Northampton ’s Billy Mackay
equalised ten minutes after the
break.
Michael Jacobs gave the lowly
side an unlikely lead early in the
first part of extra-time but David
Ngog gave the Reds some hope
with a leveller four minutes
before the added half-hour
ended.
The ensuing shootout saw
Northampton's Steve Guinan and
Liverpool's Ngog miss the first
spot-kicks before 19-year old
substitute Nathan Eccleston hit
the crossbar with Liverpool's
fourth effort giving Abdul Osman
the chance to step up and send
the Cobblers into the last 16.
