New Fulham manager Mark Hughes has attempted to deter Liverpool from making an approach for Paul Konchesky.
The former Manchester City manager, 46, was officially unveiled as the Cottagers' successor to Roy Hodgson, who left West London last month to take control at Anfield, this afternoon and has stated that he fully expects Konchesky, 29, to snub the Reds' overtures.
Liverpool are understood to be considering a move for Konchesky, despite Hodgson's reluctance to raid his former club, in a bid to strengthen their left-back options following Fabio Aurelio's re-signing and Emiliano Insua's failure to negotiate personal terms with Fiorentina.
But in his first press conference since accepting the job, Hughes issued a defiant statement by warning his predecessor and Arsene Wenger that he does not expect to sell either Konchesky or goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal.
He said: "It's not my intention to allow the better players at Fulham Football Club to leave the club.
"I would suggest the two players mentioned would still be Fulham players by the end of the window."
