Fulham chairman Mohamed Al Fayed has launched an outspoken attack on Roy Hodgson by accusing the Liverpool manager of 'taking advantage' of his former club.
The former Harrods owner interrupted a press conference earlier today during which Mark Hughes was unveiled as Hodgson's replacement after he quit Craven Cottage last month to take the reins at Anfield.
Al Fayed made public his bitterness about the 62-year-old's decision to leave Fulham after two-and-a-half years during which he took the West Londoners from the brink of relegation in late 2007 to last season's Europa League final.
During his onslaught, the 77-year-old boldly predicted that Hughes would guide the Cottagers to the Premier League title whilst claiming that Hodgson would lead Liverpool into decline.
He said: "Don't mention Roy Hodgson any more.
"This guy, we put him where he is now and he took advantage, but I'm sure he (Hughes) is going to get us to the championship."
"We gave him (Hodgson) all the support, we believed in him and he just let us down.
"Roy disappointed the fans and players. He was just a bugger. I did everything for him, to help him. But that's his character. He can't help it.
"I forgive him, anyhow - and I'm sure he's going to get Liverpool downhill."
