The Spanish striker pledged his future to the Anfield side this afternoon, delighted to be back in training at Melwood and working with new manager Roy Hodgson.
Ending months of speculation surrounding his future, Torres' words will come as a huge relief to the Reds' supporters and, according to Aldridge, provides another indication Liverpool slowly on the road to recovery.
"This is brilliant news and this is the latest in so many positive signs coming from the club in the last month or so", said Aldridge, who scored over 60 goals for the club.
"But Torres saying he is staying at the club is great and it goes without saying how massively important he is to the side. With Stevie Gerrard staying with us and Joe Cole signing, we have so many creative options to make chances for Fernando to do what he does best.
"Fernando is imperative to this place and his words today will give all the other lads a lift and give everyone hope."
Torres has scored 72 times in 116 games for Liverpool since joining from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2007.
Last season, the Spanish striker became the fastest Reds player to reach 50 league goals for the club, netting an injury-time winner against Aston Villa to secure a 1-0 victory.
