Liverpool have confirmed the appointment of part-time masseur Sylvan Richardson to the club's medical staff.Richardson has an interesting past away from his current job, having been the original guitarist in pop outfit Simply Red, fronted by Mick Hucknall, known for his keen support of Manchester United.
Richardson left the band after two years and two albums and still retains a professional interest in the music business, with his past the focus of some of the banter at the Reds' pre-season training camp in Switzerland.
"They have been giving me a lot of stick," he told the club's official website.
"Especially Sammy Lee [assistant manager]. I am a professional producer and musician but I was always interested in medicine, and when I left the band in 1987, that's the path I went down.
"To work for Liverpool is a great honour and when I got the call I was really excited.
"My role is to prepare the players and deal with their recovery after training. I am used to working with top athletes and so am very much looking forward to this opportunity.
