Liverpool are ready to sell Fernando Torres for £50 million.
The Daily Express says Chelsea fired the opening shot in the bidding war for Torres with a £35million offer to Liverpool last night.
Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has said he will do all he can to keep Torres but club sources admit if the striker agitates for a move, and the price is close to £50m, they could be tempted to sell.
Chelsea will hope that with a £7.6m four-year deal for Torres on the table they will gain an advantage over their bidding rivals, led by Manchester City.
