Roy Hodgson will make speaking with Fernando Torres one of his top priorities over the coming days.
The new boss has already met with senior stars Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher - but El Nino is currently busy preparing for a World Cup quarter-final with Paraguay.
It will be several weeks before he returns to Melwood for pre-season, but Hodgson expects discussions to take place sooner rather than later.
He said: "I will have a conversation with Fernando as soon as possible. It wouldn't be right to disturb his preparations for the quarter-final against Paraguay, but I'd like to meet him as soon as possible after the World Cup.
"I want to speak to him face to face and I'm hoping he may return to Spain for a day or two before going on holiday. It could be anywhere, but I'll be there, trying to impress on him why Anfield is the place to be."
The pair are expected to speak on the phone shortly ahead of meeting in person.
