Aldridge:Roy Ticks All The Right Boxes

John Aldridge claims Roy Hodgson 'ticks all the boxes' necessary to become a great Liverpool manager.

The 62-year-old was today announced as the successor to Rafael Benitez - and striking legend Aldo thinks the appointment is a shrewd move by the Anfield board.
He said: "I think you need someone clued up on all manners of football and Roy ticks all the boxes where that is concerned.
"He's been an international manager as well. If you look back at what he did at Fulham, he was able to turn the players' fortunes around almost overnight. Essentially, he was able to get the players believing in themselves.
"His experience is fantastic, it really is. For example, the jobs he has done in Italy and Switzerland. I don't think people realise where exactly he has been.
"Okay, he had a bad year or so at Blackburn Rovers, but I think when you have been in the game as long as he has, you are allowed to make one or two mistakes."
Liverpool were linked with a whole host of names following Benitez's departure at the start of June - but Aldo believes Hodgson was the candidate most suited to Anfield traditions.
He explained: "If you look at the way Roy goes about his job - in a quiet, unassuming manner - he's not the Mourinho type.
"And I think that if you look down the line, that's predominantly how Liverpool managers have been throughout."
Hodgson has been charged with reviving the Reds' fortunes after a seventh-place finish and early Champions League exit in 2009-10.
One of his first tasks according to Aldo will be to restore belief within the squad.
"You have to get the players back on track, you've got to give them a goal, and the first one has got to be to get back into the Champions League," said the former Red.
"It's not going to be easy with Tottenham and Man City trying to get into the top four with all their spending power.
"You have got to give the players that belief because they still have a very good squad that just needs building on by bringing in three really big players. There is dead wood that could bring a few bob in as well."
