Barnes Tips Reds For Top-6 Finish

Former Liverpool star John Barnes is of firm belief that the Merseyside club can still gain a top-six finish this term. The Reds are currently deep in the relegation zone after starting poorly under new manager Roy Hodgson but Barnes, who made over 300 league appearances in the 1980s and 90s has faith in the team. "If you look at the Premier League now for example, we all thought that Chelsea were going to run away with it with Arsenal and Manchester United," he said. "So the fact that Liverpool are now third from bottom, they are four or five points from fifth spot, I have no fears that Liverpool will be in the top six. "I'm excited for Liverpool because I think in the last three years the creative onus has been on Gerrard and Torres but with Joe Cole coming to the team and Meireles I think once they bed in they will improve. "The exciting thing for me is they were able to get the quality of Cole and Meireles when normally you would think that they aren't going to be able to get players of those qualities, so that looks good for Liverpool. "And hopefully if the ownership changes and they get some money in. But it's gonna take time."
