Raul Meireles admits the
opportunity to test himself in
one of European football's
biggest domestic fixtures was a
factor in his decision to join
Liverpool last month.
The midfielder left hometown
club FC Porto for Anfield in
August and, after impressing in
run outs against Birmingham City
and Steaua Bucharest, is in
contention to figure in Sunday's
clash with Manchester United.
Meireles already holds experience
of playing at Old Trafford having
helped Porto to a 2-2 Champions
League draw at the home of Alex
Ferguson's side in 2009.
Now the Portuguese star is
aiming to make an impact for
Liverpool as they attempt to
deliver a statement of intent
against their arch rivals.
"I have played there before and
we did very well," said Meireles.
"We drew 2-2 but I am too
young to have played there in the
Costinha game which Jose
Mourinho won [in 2004].
"But I am not nervous at all at the
prospect of going there so early
in my Liverpool career. These
types of games, really big games,
are the best ones to play in.
"Every player dreams of playing
in these games and I am the
same. That is why I came here, to
have the chance to play in games
like this."
