Liverpool May Sack Roy To Please Bidders

Liverpool are getting ready to
replace under fire manager Roy
Hodgson with former Aston
Villa boss Martin O ’Neill if their
takeover goes through,
according to the Daily Star.
After a seventh placed finish last
term, which led to Rafael
Benitez ’s dismissal, Hodgson has
been charged with bringing
stability back to the Merseysiders.
However, a poor start to this
season, which culminated in a
3-2 loss to arch-rivals Manchester
United yesterday, sees Liverpool
lying in 16th position.
And the two consortiums trying
to buy the crisis-torn Anfield club
both believe O ’Neill has a better
chance of bringing the glory days
back to Liverpool than Hodgson.
Despite Tom Hicks and George
Gillett ’s unwillingness to sell for
anything less than £600 million,
Royal Bank of Scotland will
threaten to seize control of the
club if a £280 million debt is not
paid off.
Hicks is now looking to finance
that before the October 11
deadline in order to hang onto
the club and Hodgson is fighting
a double-edged sword.
He knows the club needs new
owners in order to move
forward – he will have no money
to spend in January if the
Americans retain control – but if
they are brought out then his job
is in serious jeopardy.
