Liverpool FC legend Kenny
Dalglish believes the Anfield
club must focus on bringing the
league title back to Merseyside
after a 20-year absence.
The 59-year-old believes the Reds
have only themselves to blame
for the long run of Premier
League near misses.
"We've got to get ourselves up to
the mark and back to where we
should be," Dalglish told BBC
Radio Merseyside.
"It's hard to believe 1990 was
the last championship that we
won, but it's not anybody else's
fault but our own."
Dalglish continued: "Two years
ago I thought 'This is it' and we
ran Manchester United really
close. We were full of optimism
the following season but
unfortunately it never
happened."
The Scot was manager at
Liverpool when they last won the
old first division title back in
1990, before the creation of the
Premier League in 1992.
There has been plenty of Cup
success at Anfield since then,
most notably the 2005
Champions League win under
former manager Rafa Benitez,
beating AC Milan on penalties in
the final in Istanbul.
However, the supporters
increasingly crave the title, and
the former Scotland international
thinks the Reds will reward their
patience.
"I think we'll be alright, as I've
said before, we're in transition,"
Dalglish continued.
"Everybody has been though a
transitional period in their
history but it's how we come out
of it and how quickly we come
out of it. I think we'll be out of it
sooner rather than later.
"I think Roy Hodgson will bring
stability in the football sense. But
the sale of the club will just kick it
on that bit more, so once
everything's in place, then we'll
be much stronger."
