Carra Lauds Owen And Fans For Their Great Support

Liverpool defender Jamie
Carragher was pleased to see
Michael Owen given a generally
positive reaction from fans when
the Manchester United striker
turned out in the defender's
testimonial against Everton at the
weekend.
There had been some fears that
the former Reds star might be in
for a hard time from some
sections of the Anfield faithful, in
light of his decision to join the
club's fierce rivals from the other
end of the East Lancs Road last
summer.
But the occasion was an
enjoyable and relaxed occasion,
with the Liverpool XI eventually
running out 4-1 winners, and
Carragher thanked everyone who
took part.
"It was a brilliant weekend and I
can't thank everyone enough for
helping to make it happen," he
told the Reds' official website.
"It was great that David Moyes
brought Everton across and it
was a good game.
"I was delighted Michael Owen
got a good reception, as he
didn't have to come back. It took
a bit of courage and it was nice
that there were so many old
faces involved.
"Everyone understands the
situation with Michael and he
realised that he might take a bit
of stick. He probably did at the
start of the game.
"But, obviously, the aim was to
try to raise £1 million and it's
brilliant we did that.
"It's all going to benefit charities
in Liverpool and things could not
have worked out better. It wasn't
about me."
