Agger Vows To Fight For Place

Daniel Agger has vowed to win
back his first team place.
The Dane was dropped for
Sunday's game with Birmingham,
with the boss preferring the
central defensive partnership of
Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel
with new boy Paul Konchesky at
left-back. However, Agger is
determined to win back his
place, starting with the Europa
League game against Steaua
Bucharest tonight.
"Obviously I wasn't happy
because I want to play every
game. It's not my decision but I
have to accept it," he said.
"I can be as angry as I want but
it will never be my decision.
Everybody says the same thing
[in these situations] that you
have to work hard and improve.
"What I need to do is make sure I
use the games that I do get at
centre-back to show the boss
that I want to play there and that
I am good enough to play there.
"There is no point sulking. You
just have to go and prove
yourself. I think it is fair enough
to be disappointed. It's also fair
enough to be angry.
"You just don't show it. You can
show it to yourself when you are
at home. You can hit and kick
things if you want. That's where
you keep it.
"But when you are at the club,
you have got to behave and
accept things as they are. If you
have ambitions as a top
footballer, you have to be
competitive and you have to be
disappointed."
