David Ngog hopes his unstoppable strike against Arsenal will be the first of many for Liverpool this season after declaring his intention to stay and fight for his place at Anfield.
And his chances of gaining more first-team action will only have been enhanced by a sweetly struck Kop end goal just after half-time against Arsene Wenger's visitors.
"I am happy at Liverpool. I am focused on the club and I'm trying to do my best for Liverpool," Ngog told Liverpoolfc.tv.
"I am a striker and I want to score a lot of goals for Liverpool. I work hard for this and so it's good when it comes off.
"When Javier passed the ball to me in the box I couldn't see so many solutions so I took a shot and that's that."
The Reds looked set for a win in Roy Hodgson's league bow until an unfortunate own goal from Pepe Reina levelled the scores with seconds to spare.
This after Joe Cole's dismissal meant Liverpool had to play the entire second half with 10 men.
Ngog believes that under the circumstances, it was a point gained rather than two dropped.
"Yes, it's a good point because when we went down to 10 men we realised it was going to be difficult to get a point," he said.
"I don't know if he deserved the red card. He just wanted to do well. But after that we fought together and did well."
Another plus for the new-look Merseysiders was the second-half introduction of Fernando Torres, who hasn't played since injuring his adductor in the World Cup final.
His return may mean less pitch time for Ngog, but the 21-year-old was delighted when El Nino committed his future to the club two weeks ago.
He said: "He really helps us. He's a key player and it's good for our future. It was a boost. When big players like him and Stevie say they are staying it's a good thing for Liverpool. We are a big club and we need big players."
Ngog was plucked from Paris St Germain as a teenager by Rafael Benitez, and despite having a good relationship with the Spaniard, the youngster is enjoying working with his successor.
"So far it's been really good," he said. "He talks really closely with the players. He has a lot of experience and this will help us to be at a top level.
"He has managed for a long time and he's good for the club."
