Stoke City signing Kenwyne Jones says he rejected Liverpool to move to the Potteries.
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson made a late bid to hijack the deal and take the big Trinidadian to Merseyside.
Jones, 25, who played under Pulis during a 13-game loan spell at Stoke in 2005, said: “Quite a few managers were trying to get me, but it’s nice to know one manager kept going.
“It’s important to know that because it gives a player confidence in himself and confidence in his manager.
“I worked with him five years ago, so I know what he is like and what he expects.
“I was really young back then and just breaking into the League. It was a really good experience for me here and I’ve come on leaps and bounds since then. The club has changed a lot since then, but I remember the stadium and the fans being very good.
“First I have to do it for the team and then the crowd will see the end result for the team.”
