The People says Barca will move ahead of Inter Milan in the race for Mascherano this week when they offer Liverpool £15million plus Alexander Hleb.
Former Arsenal star Hleb has been told he can move on as he is not part of Barca boss Pep Guardiola’s plans.
Aston Villa, Sevilla, Lyon and AC Milan have been monitoring Hleb’s situation and the player’s wife is keen on a return to England.
That will put Liverpool in the box seat, even more so after Martin O’Neill walked out of Villa, and Barcelona hope his inclusion in the deal will force the Reds’ hand.
