Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano looked set for a move to Inter Milan earlier this summer, but it now appears a move to Spanish giants Barcelona is his likely destination.
Inter president Massimo Moratti has recently conceded that his club lack the finances to secure the Liverpool man's services, partly due to the fact that Mario Balotelli has still not completed his move to Manchester City.
This has opened the door for Barcelona, who have turned the attentions to Mascherano after admitting defeat in their pursuit for Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas.
Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is willing to let the holding midfielder go and has lined up Juventus' Christian Poulson as a replacement.
Hodgson is also an admirer of Barcelona's Aleksandr Hleb and could look to take the Belarus internatioanl to Anfield as part of the deal for Mascherano.
