Roy Hodgson has announced his first Liverpool starting line-up as new Reds boss as the team take on Switzerland’s Grasshoppers this evening.
David Ngog starts up front for the Reds amidst rumours linking him with an Anfield exit. There’s also a starting place for Philipp Degen at right-back, who was told today that he doesn’t have a future at the club.
There’s starts for David Amoo and Nathan Eccleston on the wings, as they look to impress Hodgson in these early pre-season games.
Alberto Aquilani partners Lucas in midfield, whilst Albert Riera returns to the bench having fallen out with former boss Rafa Benitez.
Liverpool’s 13 World Cup players (including Joe Cole!) are unlikely to appear until later in the Reds’ pre-season campaign.
Liverpool: Cavalieri, Degen, Darby, Kelly, Ayala, Amoo, Eccleston, Lucas, Spearing, Aquilani, Ngog. Subs: Gulacsi, Irwin, Palsson, Robinson, Shelvey, Ince, Dalla Valle, Riera.
Kick-off is 6.30pm.
