Midfielder Javier Mascherano has returned to Merseyside and taken part in a training session at Melwood for the first time since the World Cup.
It is also the first time the Argentine international has met with new Reds boss Roy Hodgson, and is now expected to have showdown talks with the club.
Mascherano has been the subject of a lot of interest from top European clubs including Barcelona and Rafa Benitez‘s Inter Milan.
It is understood Liverpool would only be willing to part company with Mascherano for at least £30million.
Doubts were cast on Mascherano’s future at Anfield when Hodgson revealed he had had trouble getting in touch with the midfielder. However, Hodgson later explained that he had not expected any reply from the 26-year-old.
Hodgson is hopeful he can convince Mascherano to stay at the club.
