The Daily Star Sunday says Hodgson is chasing Figueroa after losing left-back pair Fabio Aurelio and Emiliano Insua during the summer.
Wigan are ready to sell Figueroa as soon as they find a replacement. The Latics are currently in talks with PSV Eindhoven for £2 million-rated defender Carlos Salcido.
