Liverpool Manager Roy Hodgson has reportedly already drawn up a hit list of transfer targets.
Indeed, Brazilian Gilberto Silva would be a ready-made replacement for Mascherano at Liverpool. Dubbed 'the invisible wall', the 33-year-old is doing a fine job patrolling Brazil's midfield at the World Cup. Currently at Panathanaikos, Gilberto would likely welcome a return to the Premier League where he starred for Arsenal's 'invincibles' team.
Van der Vart is also on World Cup duty with Holland. The 27-year-old is said to be happy at Real Madrid where he scored six goals last season. But, Jose Mourinho may have to offload some players in order to prepare for a summer of big money signings and Van Der Vaart could be sacrificed to make way for others.
Hodgson will reportedly also look to bring some trusted allies to Anfield. Centre-back Brede Hangeland was excellent for Fulham as reached the Europa League final. The imposing defender would bring plenty of experience to Liverpool, having won over 50 caps for Norway.
Midfielder Murphy is another of Hodgson's Fulham players, although a move to Liverpool would be an Anfield return for the 33-year-old who spent seven years at the club until moving to Charlton in 2004. He has since matured into a reliable leader in the centre of the pitch.
