ROY HODGSON will make signing a new left-back a priority after allowing Emiliano Insua to become the latest player to leave Liverpool.
And the manager is eager to make swift additions to his squad after revealing he may be without all of the squad's World Cup contingent for the first leg of their Europa League tie next week.
Insua left the team's training camp in Switzerland on Saturday and headed to Italy to complete a move to Fiorentina.
The Serie A side have agreed a fee of £5million with Liverpool for the Argentine full-back, who made 60 appearances and scored one goal since arriving from Boca Juniors in January 2007.
With Andrea Dossena having been sold in January and Fabio Aurelio departing on a free transfer last month, Hodgson is now without a recognised senior left-back with centre-back Daniel Agger having ended the season filling the position.
And the Liverpool manager said: “Yes, we are short. It's going to be one of the priorities to find a replacement.
“It's one of the jobs we have to do.”
Of Insua's transfer, Hodgson added: “As far as we understand, the deal has been completed between the clubs and his agent is sorting out personal terms..
“We thank him for his time at Liverpool and the work he did for us and accept that it was the right moment for him to move on and get first-team football with Fiorentina.”
